LOVE AND PRACTICE THE GOOD
Built in 1968 and inactive for two decades, the Fazenda Cuerama was reactivated in 2004 and continued the cattle raising. Since then, its infrastructures have been rebuilt. The reactivation of this space allowed to acknowledge the lack of access to education and health in Aldeia Cuerama.

Participatory diagnosis with the community where several important social neglected problems with negative impact have been identified: lack of access to education and access to health, very low income generation (below 1 USD / day), exclusive dependence on agriculture as the sole means of livelihood and market access difficulty to sell agricultural products due to poor road quality.
The Cuerama community decided together with the Cuerama project managers to build Primary Education School and test the creation of new social business as alternative ways to income generation (carpentry office in Luanda). Preparation of a participatory methodology for infrastructure construction and furniture through the local community.
First contacts with local authorities were initiated through the Education Provincial Directorate of Sumbe and Quibala Municipal Administration. Topographic survey were implemented in the field and the architecture project was started. Together with the local community, the land for the project implementation was identified. The first construction were 5 classrooms with a capacity of 400 students, the teacher’s house and, in Luanda, 3 people were trained in the Social Carpentry workshop to build all the school furniture using recycled wooden pallets given by an institutional partner.

The construction work of the first phase is completed. Prospecting of local teachers and monitors available to the School begins. Preparation for training and implementation of workshops through Basketry with social business pilot with the creation of 4 to 5 different products.
Inauguration of new infrastructures - a school garden, a refectory covering 575 students with one further classroom extended from the first to the fifth year. Two new teachers from the Ministry of Education (MED) were hired a total of 6 teachers, 4 monitors, 3 cooks, 4 assistants, 1 secretary and 1 garden technician were trained. Preparations began for the construction of a Health Post, Nursing Staff Accommodation and the Volunteer House.

4 teachers graduated by ADPP Angola - People for People Development Support Association, 4 monitors and 3 cooks from the local community. The first year of Cuerama School starts with a capacity for 402 students. More than sixty thousand meals were served.
The first two seamstresses were trained through a specialized course with MAPTESS (Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security). And 28 people were trained in the Basketry area and 3 in the Pottery.
